Trip to the Hattiesburg Zoo

After a great study of biomes and animal habitats, our 6th grade Quest classes took a field trip to the Hattiesburg Zoo to see all of the unique animals from around the world. We had a great time touring the zoo and learned a lot from our educational class. We were able to get up close and personal with a milk snake and baby alligator. This was a great trip with lots of memories that I hope our students cherish for a lifetime.

Biomes Around The World

Quest has been learning all about biomes around the world. This has been a time of great interests in different animals, plants, climates, and culture that are part of each biome. As students participated in research they found out things they had never known before. Each group of students became the experts of their biome. As a culminating project, the students designed and brought to life their biome. Students created an exhibit area where each class from MSP could come and learn cool new things about biomes around the world. We enjoyed this unit of study and project. Here are a few pictures that show just how much work our students put into their projects.

MSP Quest
Medical Mystery Study

Mrs. Holly Johnson’s 6th grade Quest classes took part in a problem based learning experience that focused on a real life medical mystery scenario. Students were given daily reports of symptoms and stories of different individuals whose health began to decline rapidly. Each student worked hard and raced against the clock to diagnose the patients correctly, and also had to decide what medical care needed to be taken. At the end of the study, the students transformed the classroom into a hospital, and presented their reports to Dr. Angela Jones, Christina Meador, CNP. Jessica Carr, RN and the MSP health classes. Our medical judges agreed that the students had diagnosed the patients correctly, and gave them wonderful feedback. We want to thank our judges and audience who came and helped make this study so meaningful.

MSP Quest
“Young Author’s Celebration”

Mrs. Holly Johnson’s 6th grade Quest classes enjoyed the day being able to meet and visit with authors and illustrators from around the area. This event entitled, “Young Author’s Celebration” was put on by William Carey University, and each student experienced how to be their “Life’s Own Author.” Prior to the trip, the Quest students spent several weeks writing their own stories that were special to them. We went through the whole writing process and published each student’s book. This was a wonderful experience and gave each student the confidence they needed to realize that they can use their personal experiences to connect with others through stories. We had a great time and look forward to sharing our stories with students at Poplarville Lower Elementary for Read Across America Week.

Celebrating Success

Our Quest classes have worked really hard this semester and met their points goal. So, what better way to celebrate than taking a trip to the Yogurt Bucket. This was a nice time to get together and recognize everyone's achievements and what it takes to be successful. The students enjoyed trying different flavor froyo. We look forward to another great semester!

Escape This!

Our Quest class had a blast visiting, “Escape This” in Biloxi, Ms. This was an amazing experience that allowed us the opportunity to use many detective skills along with teamwork, strategic, and analytical thinking. We were placed into a themed mystery room and were given 60 minutes to escape using all of the clues that were strategically placed around the room. We had to all put our heads together in order to figure out what was important information and how it all fit together. And I have to add, we all escaped just in the nick of time!!!
