MSP Quest
“Young Author’s Celebration”

Mrs. Holly Johnson’s 6th grade Quest classes enjoyed the day being able to meet and visit with authors and illustrators from around the area. This event entitled, “Young Author’s Celebration” was put on by William Carey University, and each student experienced how to be their “Life’s Own Author.” Prior to the trip, the Quest students spent several weeks writing their own stories that were special to them. We went through the whole writing process and published each student’s book. This was a wonderful experience and gave each student the confidence they needed to realize that they can use their personal experiences to connect with others through stories. We had a great time and look forward to sharing our stories with students at Poplarville Lower Elementary for Read Across America Week.

Celebrating Success

Our Quest classes have worked really hard this semester and met their points goal. So, what better way to celebrate than taking a trip to the Yogurt Bucket. This was a nice time to get together and recognize everyone's achievements and what it takes to be successful. The students enjoyed trying different flavor froyo. We look forward to another great semester!

Escape This!

Our Quest class had a blast visiting, “Escape This” in Biloxi, Ms. This was an amazing experience that allowed us the opportunity to use many detective skills along with teamwork, strategic, and analytical thinking. We were placed into a themed mystery room and were given 60 minutes to escape using all of the clues that were strategically placed around the room. We had to all put our heads together in order to figure out what was important information and how it all fit together. And I have to add, we all escaped just in the nick of time!!!

DIY Video Tutorials

Our Quest class had a lot of fun doing DIY (Do it Yourself) projects. The most fun came when it was time to actually video these cool projects. Students were able to choose a DIY project that they wanted to share with others through a video session. Students brought in all of the supplies needed, and had to go through each step and demonstrate how to make it happen. Afterwards, the students used a video editing site to enhance their tutorial. These were lots of fun and the students learned so much throughout this project. Here is the link to each tutorial. Please enjoy.

Sweet Genius Dessert Decorating Challenge

Our Quest class participated in the 2nd Annual Sweet Genius Desert Challenge. This challenge is used to have students express their creativity and love for cooking. There were lots of icing and toppings to use in order to create that special and unique masterpiece. Each class had a winner. Afterwards, the students were able to indulge in a little sweet treat of their own.

Stop Motion Academy Awards

Mrs. Holly Johnson’s 6th Grade Quest Classes held their 1st Annual Stop Motion Academy Awards. Students learned how to make an original stop motion film and created movies that shared something special to them. Stop motion takes lots of creativity and patience.  Students transformed the room and stepped out onto the red carpet. Family and friends helped us celebrate as we took them through the steps of what it takes to make a stop motion film. It was a great success and we look forward to seeing more productions from these bright students in the future. Please click on the film title to view student presentations. Hope you enjoy.

Stop Motion Animation

Our 6th grade Quest classes are enjoying learning the art of making some great stop motion animations. We have spent some time understanding how this works and what it takes to make it great. Students are working hard and creating some awesome videos that will be an inspiration to others. Here are some pictures of the planning and scenery set up. We will post the links to the actual videos as we finish them. We learned quickly that this is an art that takes lots of patience and creativity.
